Dylan's Guide to Human Interaction

I got a haircut today and gave the lady a five dollar tip for a fifteen dollar haircut because I didn't have the exact change and I thought it would be too awkward to have her hand me the change and me to have to hand it right back to her.

And still I wonder why I spend my Friday nights alone.

Me and my dad drove ten and a half hours to Virginia on Friday so that we could attend my brother's college graduation, which featured a speech from the lovable Ben Stein, and then turn around and drive all the way back to Monroe today (Sunday). It was a short-lived trip, but for a brief moment, I was glad it was finally summer.

Except now I'm back in Monroe and I remember that I got a D in one of my classes this semester and my beard looks like pubic hair and my skin is breaking out and I have no job or friends or social skills or real-world fuctionality or talent or viable career aspirations.

In other news, I am officially excited for the new Decemberists album like you would not believe. Case in point.

EDIT: Fixed link. I'm a dunce.

God this journal is an embarassment.

Jan. 9th, 2009 | 11:30 pm

I was just reading all of my past Livejournal entries and I hereby grant you permission to pretend that none of them ever happened. I feel like I need to take a long shower now.

Meanwhile, I haven't been able to get my art dick up in months, which is extremely troubling considering that's the only thing that I have any half-hearted sense of future career prospects towards. Luckily, one of my friends recently gave me an art request that I'd actually like to do. We'll see how it goes. Here's a very rough WIP:

I'm really starting to regret never having learned to play an instrument. Not only does that ensure that I will remain a virgin forever, it's really annoying having to look at a reference every ten seconds because I don't have the slightest idea how to draw a guitar (or hands playing a guitar, evidently).

Browser Wars

Oct. 29th, 2008 | 09:12 pm

I switched from Firefox 3 to Opera about two months ago and I think I can safely that Opera is a piece of shit browser compared to Firefox and I have no idea why it's so lauded. Here is my modest analysis of Opera:

  • It's slightly more aesthetically pleasing than Firefox by default.
  • You can turn off bilinear filtering on zoomed images
  • As a pixel art enthusiast, the second reason above is pretty much the only reason I'm still using this fucking thing.
  • Any links you add to the toolbar are also added to the Bookmarks list, which is redundant and wasteful.
  • It seems to be pretty awful at correctly displaying Flash videos. They always get caught on frames or don't want to zoom in properly or any of a million other incompatibilities.
  • You can't middle-click bookmarks to open them into new tabs. You gotta open a new tab and THEN open the bookmark.
  • You can't drag pictures from the browser into a folder on your computer.
  • You can't delete links from your address bar. This is inconvenient when most of the internet is porn.
  • It somehow manages to use even MORE resources than Firefox.
  • No spell checker. Seriusly what is thsi shit.
  • No 'Go' button next to the address bar.
  • Other subtle things I can't remember.
